An effective Early Childhood Music program provides experiences from which children can discover that:
1. Music can be softer or louder (dynamics)
2. Music can be faster or slower (tempo)
3. Music can be higher or lower (pitch)
4. Voices and instruments have different qualities (timbre)
5. Sounds can be longer or shorter (rhythm)
6. Music has a regular underlying beat
7. They can move in different ways to music
e.g. clapping/tapping; walking/marching; skipping/galloping/swaying
(experiencing simple and compound time)
8. Speaking voices and singing voices are different. Discovery of the child's natural singing voice may take some time.
9. There are places in songs for taking a breath (phrase)
10. Music can be internalised and heard ‘inside your head’ (inner hearing)
